ASKÖ open space on the Schmelz: Now things are getting serious!

The roller sports field was once on the right side, and a park will be built from 2025. Now “Summer on the Schmelz” is available as temporary use (Image: Steiner).

After many years of waiting, an initiative is – finally – moving towards implementation: “Summer on the Schmelz” is the motto on part of the former ASKÖ square.

The good news: The area opposite the playground on the Schmelz, which has been fallow for two years, will be used for play starting in May. The second news, which is almost as good: It won't be properly converted into a park until 2025, and until then there will be an interim project called “Summer on the Schmelz”. But that also offers a lot to children and young people, as the Vienna District Gazette found out exclusively.

Summer care

Namely: From May to September from Thursday to Sunday from 15 p.m. and increasingly in July/August on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to sunset there will be fun and games. The young visitors are looked after by trained Juvivo employees. Plans include a go-kart course, art projects, circus acrobatics, a food stand, soccer and basketball fields, a sandpit, boccia court, seating, craft stations, board and card games. Everything your heart desires. Sounds good – and hopefully it will be well received.

And this is what the plan for the future renovation looks like - it is hanging in the district council for viewing:
